Electrodeionization Edi Ultra Pure Water System

EDI (Electrodeionization) is a kind of pure water production technology which combines ion exchange and ion exchange membrane with ion electric transfer technology. It is composed of electrodialysis and ion exchange technology, using high voltage electrodes at both ends to make the charged ions transfering and the ion will be acceleratedly removed through ion exchange resin and selective resin, so as to achieve the purpose of water purification. 
 
How does it work?
An EDI stack has the basic structure of a deionization chamber. The chamber contains a ion exchange resin, packed between a cationic exchange membrane and a anionic exchange membrane. Only the ions can pass through the membrane, the water is blocked.
When flow enters the resin filled diluiting compartment, several processes are set in motion. Strong ions are scavenged out of the feed stream by the mixed bed resins. Under the influence of the strong direct current field applied across the stack of components, charged ions are pulled off the resin and drawn towards the respective, oppositely-charged electrodes. In this way these charged strong-ion species are continuously removed and transferred in to the adiacent concentrating compartments. 
As the ions go towards the membrane, they can pass through the concentration chamber (see figure) but they cannot reach the electrode. They are blocked by the contiguous membrane, that contains a resin with the same charge.

EDI Modules are usually used after two pass ro systems,two pass ro systems will remove 99% impurities from the water,EDI will remove the rest ions except H2O.Below is two pass ro sytems's pictures and the complete operating process diagram of the  two pass ro system and EDI.

1. Raw water pump-- provide the pressure to quartz sand filter/active carbon filter.
2. Multi-medium filter-- get rid of turbidity, suspended matter, organic matter, colloid, ect
3. Actived carbon filter--Remove the color, free chloride, organic matter, harmful matter, ect.
4. Water softener--exchange "ions" of calcium and magnesium with the most common and easiest method.
5. Security filter--prevent large particles, bacteria, viruses into RO membrane, accuracy is 5um.
6. High pressure pump-- Provide the high pressure to RO membrane.
7. 2# RO membrane-- remove more than 99% ions, bacteria, salt, microorganism, heavy ions, colloid,emdotoxin and other particles in the water.
8. EDI membrane-- produce more than 15MΩ.cm ultra pure water.
